As recently as the 1990’s, Austin’s downtown still retained something of a smaller-town feel. Efforts to promote more residential development (condos and apartments) have successfully transformed downtown into a haven for the young, hip, urban professional. Many of Austin’s well-known restaurants, lounges, live performance venues, and landmarks are in the neighborhood or very close by. Dining and nightlife options range from intimate cafes and bars to high-end restaurants and lounges.
